The older participants worked in response to Ikon’s summer exhibition titled Some of the Best Things in Life Happen Accidentally, Ikon at 40. This exhibition showcased work produced by some of the artists that set-up the gallery along with those artists who had exhibitions in the early days of the gallery, and also celebrated Ikon’s 40th anniversary as one of Birmingham’s main cultural institutions.

Participants responded to this by reflecting on their own experiences of the city over the last 40 years, recalling memories of people and places.
