Soundspace developed popular and contemporary music skills including performing and composing/ song-writing. Apprentices also benefited from tuition in guitar, keyboard, percussion, voice and music technology leading to creating their own music for performance and audio CD.

In-Flux created four films in response to the exhibition at the Ikon Gallery. It encouraged the apprentices to respond to their environment in a personal way. Birmingham is in a state of flux, architecturally, culturally and technologically. The project therefore emphasised the changes and the apprentices were asked to respond to these.

Digimate created a collection of shorted animated films using both traditional methods and techniques and drawing on digital technology. The combination created an exciting, stimulating and varied range of work produced by young people.

Moving Sounds was a multi-disciplinary performance project that explored the apprentice’s experiences of social communication and life in Birmingham. Using improvisational practices the apprentices worked towards the creation of a performance piece that included dance, music and dramatical skills.

Total Theatre inspired by visual art. Using the ‘Ikons of Identity’ exhibition as a stimulus young people explored how concepts of mask and body adornment comment on the culture and counter-culture of modern day society.
