Gallery 37 is an annual youth arts training programme for young people aged 16 - 24, initiated by Birmingham City Council. The programme for 2010 is currently being decided and specific information about required event staff will be available shortly. Typically though, the following roles are offered through this programme:
Event Officer
An Event Officer is required to help facilitate the smooth running of the programme. Duties range from assisting with the physical and administrative set-up, running and dismantling of the project, to providing support for apprentice artists, artists and general management throughout. An efficient, practical and conscientious approach is necessary.
Youth Workers
Youth Workers are recruited to provide support for the young people involved in the Gallery 37 programme, providing guidance on issues affecting their learning and participation in the programme. Applicants need to have experience of working with 16 – 24 year olds and have a youth work qualification.
Technician
A competent AV technician is often required to facilitate the smooth running Gallery 37’s programme throughout the delivery period and particularly during sharings / performances. Duties include assisting in the technical aspects of the set-up and break down of the project, providing practical and technical assistance to artists and apprentice artists during the project and implementing a simple equipment booking system. Technicians need to be familiar with a wide variety of AV equipment, be used to setting up computers and printers, able to use a variety of cameras and solve technical issues when they arise.
Volunteers
Every year energetic volunteers help to support the Gallery 37 programme. Volunteers are actively involved in helping to set up activities, organising materials, assisting with young people, artists and arts organisations as required. Typically, volunteers are flexible and helpful, with a practical approach and an interest in the arts and facilitating group activities.
